The first minutes of a film are crucial for transitioning the viewer from reality to fantasy. Whether it's someone's first or third viewing, the title sequence sets the movie’s tone. I, along with Miyana Tatum, created a title sequence for Jordan Peele's film, Us.
I was in charge of the motion graphics and the art direction of the ninety-second video. We wanted to develop a compelling opening that respected the movie’s tone. Initially, we watched the movie and researched commentary to gain a deeper understanding of the film. This led to an artistic direction: a moody, suspenseful short with a red color palette. We created a mood board to encapsulate the tone of our sequence. After that, we filmed our video based on our storyboard. We added typographic elements and color grading in post-production to finalize our title sequence.
Overall, I gained experience with cinematography and how to edit and color grade in After Effects. I also gained experience collaborating with another designer, which was an enjoyable experience.
