→ 12 Arsene Cards
Channel: Print Design

A Dozen of Arsene is a set of twelve cards designed to explore the fictitious gentleman thief, Arsene Lupin. Each card was designed by answering questions about his character, such as “What kind of animal would he be?” The cards culminated into a set that embodies the persona of Arsene Lupin.

I assembled a mood board compiling my research of Arsene Lupin, who originated in 1905. Lupin’s origin guided me to gather images of Art Nouveau design, and early 20th-century aesthetics. From there, I developed a rough visual identity, which included typography, color, and image, to begin my first iterations. At first, the process was a little rough trying to mold the iterations into a visual identity because I struggled to find the essence of Lupin. However, the iterations slowly molded into a design that fit him. The result was a cohesive set of 12 cards that evoke the luxurious, mischievous, and wittyness of Arsene Lupin.

There were memorable moments in creating this set of cards, like finding the most suitable size and designing the backs of the cards. Most importantly, I learned how to trust the mess, because eventually, the design will flesh itself out.
